Licensed Psychologist 

Dr. Lydia Collins is a Post-Doctoral Psychology Resident who provides individual and couple psychotherapy and psychological testing in Spanish and English. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Regent University, an American Psychological Association accredited program. Dr. Collins has gained specialized training and expertise through her clinical work at the following settings: Regent University’s Psychological Services Center, Genesis Counseling Center, Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center, and Old Dominion University’s Office of Counseling Services. She completed her APA-accredited internship at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso and the University of Texas at El Paso.


Throughout her training, Dr. Collins has participated in research investigating employee wellness programs at El Paso Psychiatric Center, aspects of spiritual diversity that impact couples therapy with religious couples, the impact of needs assessment and training outcomes on community-based lay counseling interventions in Beijing, China, and cultural factors that influence mental health treatment in Paraguay.


Dr. Collins has developed specialized knowledge and expertise in evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Time-Limited Psychodynamic Therapy (TLDP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She has worked with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of concerns, including depressive and anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, substance-related and addictive disorders, disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorders, in addition to relationship and interpersonal problems.


Dr. Collins works collaboratively with her clients to help them accomplish their goals through evidence-based therapies. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Collins recognizes the interactive effects of each aspect of clients’ identities (e.g. gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, etc…) and how their unique experiences have shaped their behavior. As such, she is committed to providing culturally-informed treatments, that draw on client’s strengths and qualities.
